Our Story · South 1st

A neighborhood
coffee bar, since 2009.

Once Over has been pouring specialty coffee on South 1st Street for sixteen years. Same address. Same patio over Bouldin Creek. Same idea: build a daily-stop coffee bar that takes the craft seriously and the airs lightly.

01 — The shop

Local coffee.
Loud community.

That line lives on our shingle for a reason. We didn't open Once Over to sell a brand. We opened it to give the neighborhood a counter to walk up to, a patio to disappear into, and an espresso program worth the trip.

Sixteen years later, the regulars still walk in. The bikes still rack out front. The creek still runs out back.

"There is an intention to the experience that isn't rote. The team is absolutely lovely."

02 — What we hold

Four things we
refuse to phone in.

The fastest way to drift in this business is to start cutting where customers can't see. We don't. The bar pulls the same shot for the regular and the first-timer. The patio gets swept before the seven o'clock crowd. Everything is in the open, because that's the only way it stays right.

I.

Craft over volume

Specialty beans, dialed daily. Espresso flawless, drip bold but smooth. If a shot isn't right, it doesn't leave the bar.

II.

Know the regulars

A neighborhood bar should feel like one. Our baristas learn your order. That isn't a program — it's the whole point.

III.

The patio comes first

The back patio overlooking Bouldin Creek is the soul of the shop. Quiet enough to read, open enough to talk. Bike racks out front.

IV.

No-fuss pricing

Specialty coffee shouldn't require a finance review. Decent prices, honest portions, gift cards if you want to pass it on.

03 — Inside the bar

A patio over Bouldin Creek
and a counter that knows your name.

The space is small on purpose. A long bar in front, a cozy interior, and a serene back patio that opens onto the creek. Bike racks out front because half of South Austin gets here on two wheels.

04 — In their words

We didn't write this part.
South Austin did.

"A quintessential Austin spot that nails craft coffee and laid-back charm. The cozy interior is inviting, but the real magic is on the back patio — a serene hideaway overlooking Bouldin Creek."

"Great location for coffee and a treat on your morning bike ride. The coffee was solid and treat selection vast. The staff were great and know their regulars. This is a neighborhood gem."

"This place is super dreamy, especially out on the patio. Mega cute space to sit and read or whatever you gotta do in peace. Very decently priced, no-fuss-perfect coffee and nice baristas."
